The packaging and vinyl colors are great, the pressing is awful. Some songs play fine, but a few (such as Broken Heart) are a nightmare of pops. I don't understand why Plain Records can't get their shit together...

I have this beautiful Art Vinyl pressing & I'm happy to say that this is by far the best this album has ever sounded to me. I've compared it to all the major releases on CD & wax & the only one that comes close (still not as good though imo) is the original '97 UK Vinyl & with that you still don't get the 'Can't Help Falling' version of the title track & you have to wade through a high percentage of expensive, noisy, off center pressings to get a decent one. This Art Vinyl press is the one to get & if you ever get the chance - grab it! You'll be thrilled with not only how quiet the well pressed wax is, but how astonishing the sonics are :-)

Hopefully Art Vinyl will repress this, hopefully sooner than later!

As below, I have a boxset with all white plastic trays and a separate sheet of pills where the plastic is clear, bought separately much later. Perhaps someone should create a new entry to denote the two different releases. I'm happy to provide a picture of the two different pill trays.

I bought the original vinyl when it came out.it skips quite bad in parts the dealer i bought it off said the same as other comments on here that its a pressing fault!
Kerahuginn
The cure for the skipping on this pressing is to increase VTF on your arm after that it plays great

My copy is pressed very eccentric (a swinger!) on side 1 (but side 2 is fine). There is audible wow. Adds to the wooziness I suppose. What is other folks experience?

I would have to agree with AphexFlynn on this one. My copy has almost the exact problems. Clicks and pops, although not in the worst case scenario, they are most definitely noticeable. Volume differentials are evident as well, maybe in different spots though. For me, Come Together is much quieter than Ladies and Gentlemen, but Electricity is most definitely louder than the rest. The other songs seem to be okay, these two do stand out though. Overall, by no means would I say this pressing sucks... On the other hand, I wouldn't say it's great, it's just reasonable. The colors of the record are nice and I do enjoy the record sleeves (though I replaced them immediately) and the "enclosed leaflet", which is a fun read.

A lot of these weren't pressed very well. When I bought mine, the shop said it was their last copy and all the others they'd sold had been returned. Mine had a bit of groove distortion at the end of one of the sides - think they cut it a bit too hot - but it was otherwise OK.

If you're on a budget this pressing is fine. I'm not an audiophile (hence the budget), so while I think the bad reviews are valid I don't notice a huge lack in quality. For $24 (what I got it for in a record store), it's fine.

First, let me say that this album is fantastic. The music alone is a solid 8 or 9. This pressing, however, is a bit troubled. If I had to give it a letter grade, it would get a solid C. Not terrible but not amazing, horribly average at worst. I'm going to list some of the problems that this pressing has, and hope it will give you some guidance on whether or not you should buy this. Just a disclaimer: I don't have another pressing to compare this to, so I'm relying solely on this pressing alone to make my judgments.Ticks/Pops: This pressing has a decent amount of ticks right off the bat. While my A side only had a few at the very start of "Ladies And Gentlemen..." and the very end of "I Think I'm In Love", they seem to increase with each side. The worst ones were on side C during the songs "Broken Heart" and "Cool Waves", songs that have some of the more quieter moments on the album. However, this could just be a fluke or simply just one of many from a bad batch.Uneven Volume:I'm not sure if this how the album was when it originally came out, but some of the songs seem to fluctuate between being quiet or loud. Songs like "Come Together" and "Electricity" are loud, as they should be, but then songs like the closer "Cop Shoot Cop..." feel like their volume has been lowered. Another song, which I can't remember the name of at the time of this writing, was so loud that I had to turn down the volume for fear of it blowing out my speakers. This leads to my third and final issue.Bass:Along with the volume, the bass seems to have been mixed strangely as well. On "Come Together", the bass feels like it has been placed in the back of the mix so while you can still feel it, it doesn't have that 'oomph' that songs like "I Think I'm In Love" do have. However, this could just be an issue with my stereo and not with the records themselves.Overall, It's a decent pressing. Not terrible and not great. I feel like this a pressing that is right in the middle of a fantastic pressing and a terrible one. I don't regret purchasing this, but I do have my problems with it and might not be playing it as often as I'd like to. If you can find this for To me it sounds like a bad source has been pressed on what is very good and quiet vinyl. Perhaps a CD source, as said before, which would explain the treble being too high and bass too low. I also noticed some distortion on the centre channel on All of My Thoughts and generally pretty terrible sound on Side C.Cop Shoot Cop..., however, sounded excellent, like it was from a completely different source. The bass was rich and smooth for the first time. Strange.

My copy did not include the patient product information insert. Just me?
fabscf
The sound quality on this one any better than the previous reissue?
Sudert
Not sure about the previous release but I wish this wasn't colored vinyl. Not sure black would be better but this pressing sucks. My side d is almost unplayable because of clicks and pops. The other 3 side have varying degrees of clicks as well, but not as bad as d.
Nten
I was wary of it, being on Plain, but a buddyworks at a local shop and told me if it was bad, he'd return it. Bought it, and honestly, it's not bad... there's a slightly annoying click the first few rotations of side A1, but I'll keep it.
Rose Of Winds
My copy actually sounds pretty good! I have to turn the gain up on my pre-amp a little bit though.
Worla
Great sound on this pressing; the only vinyl version of this classic worth having. Seems to be really rare; how many were pressed?
melody of you
This pressing sounds horrible, very flat and without dynamics, as mentioned before. The original pressing I had was also unlistenable because of small dots pressed in the vinyl. The only way to hear this great album in good quality on vinyl is the Art Vinyl pressing from 2012; unfotunately, this seems to turn up next to never.

Not sure why people seem okay with this. This is a fantastic album, but this pressing isn't good at all. It's flat and quiet (which apparently is good? this is a big, orchestral album!) and really lacks depth. The packaging is beautiful, for sure, but the pressing quality is lacking.
Faezahn
I think there must be good and not-so-good pressings of this record. Plain Recordings and Fat Possum reissues usually suck ass. In this instance, Plain Recordings did an admirable job. Unfortunately, the original concept was meant for a digital mastering on CD (Spaceman noted in an interview). The original Dedicated pressing is lacking the range and texture of a full-bodied recording as well. There is not much of a difference in sound quality between the original Dedicated pressing and the reissues. I hear a slight difference in the spatial aspect of the reissue vs the CD. It might be the nature of vinyl to give flat recordings some warmth which is what I think I'm hearing. That being said, I find the warmer vinyl reissue sound superior to the harsh CD sound. Perhaps you have an example from an inferior batch and should listen to another copy.

Hi, does this version include "Patient Product Information" credit sheet???

csar123cobra Hi, does this version include "Patient Product Information" credit sheet??? Yes, it includes "Patient Product Information" credit sheet. It's great!
GoodBuyMyFriends
Possibly the only decent reissue made by Plain Recordings. Sounds quiet and OK.
Winotterin
Just picked this up from a record fair this morning. I've seen 'Plain' get a hammering on various forums etc. Although i was disappointed with my copy of MBV 'Loveless' on Plain which was muffled and too quiet in parts. This is actually pretty good. Nice depth, flat and quiet. As good as my original 97 cd at least. I'm no audiofile but more than happy with it.
Nuliax
I have 3 version of this LP(org, plains and art vinyl). This one sounds best among 3. Original one sounds natural and still a bit flat in overall sound field. A must have one as wellFor plain records one(I already sold it after got the original one).Later on I got the art vinyl one, and it sounds a more layered and deeper sound field. Most important you could listen the title song (Elvis's ver) in vinyl, that's the only vinyl version you could listen the Elvis's ver. If you think spending 100 pounds is too much to get a org copy, go ahead to hunt the art vinyl one.
Rarranere
This pressing does not include the Elvis version of the title track.
Fegelv
Can anybody list the releases that include the "I can't help falling in love" outro to Ladies and Gentlemen...?I really hate the stripped version of the song.
breakingthesystem
I don't have any of the other plain reissues to compare but the issue seems to be surface noise which my copy had. The noise went away after a good record doctor cleaning..
Chilele
This release sounds pretty good for me.
Goldendragon
Sounds amazing....if you have the reissue you are doing this no justice....did an A/B comparison, this is 10x better....
